Virginia: Man caught with hashish outside Grand Island Reserve pool

A perfect example of everything that is wrong about the law & cannabis in the remaining hold out states in the US

An Umatilla man was arrested on drug charges Thursday night after Eustis police found hashish and a bong in his vehicle outside the Grand Island Reserve community pool.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle at the pool, located at 3153 Zander Drive. The pool is in a secluded part of the neighborhood and is closed at night, according to the police report.

The officers spoke with the driver – 36-year-old Travoy Luchano Hodge – and his passenger. The men said they were hanging out just to get out of the house. The officer asked Hodge if there was anything illegal in the car and Hodge replied there may be some marijuana “roaches.” A K-9 unit was brought in to search the vehicle and the dog gave a positive alert near the driver-side door handle, the report said.

An officer searched the vehicle and found a clear glass jar containing a sticky brown powder substance, which he recognized as hashish, an altered form of marijuana. The substance tested positive for high levels of THC. The officer also found a bong, as well as a piece of plastic with a wax “dab” residue, according to the report.

After being read his Miranda warning, Hodge agreed to speak to the officer. When asked what the officer may have found in the car, Hodge replied, “my hash.” The officer radioed dispatch for the status of Hodge’s medical marijuana card and was told that he had a valid card, but all his prescriptions were expired. Hodge was placed under arrest and taken to the Eustis police station for booking, the report said.
