Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has pardoned a physician who was previously jailed for growing cannabis for his terminally ill wife.
Board-certified ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Ezell, 65, pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge in 2014, subsequently losing his medical licence and serving a six-month jail sentence. His daughter Victoria Ezell, a formerly a registered nurse, also pleaded guilty and saw her licence revoked, and was placed on probation as a result of the incident.
Ezell says he started growing cannabis to help his dying wife reduce her consumption of prescription opioids. Shortly after her passing, Ezell began to disassemble the small grow in the basement of his Haverford Township home when an unknown person noticed cannabis plant matter in his trash and tipped off local authorities.
