USA: Industrial hemp facility to be located in Rockingham County with a $3.3 million investment

ELKTON — A $3.3 million investment will bring a new industrial hemp facility to Elkton, creating 24 new jobs.

Shenandoah Valley Hemp LLC’s Pure Shenandoah will create an industrial hemp fiber processing and cannabidiol (CBD) oil extraction facility in the historic Casey Jones building in Elkton, a release said. The company will be purchasing 100% of its industrial hemp from Virginia growers, which will result in nearly $5 million in payments to Virginia farmers in the next three years, the release said.

Shenandoah Valley Hemp’s Pure Shenandoah is a seed-to-sale company out of Elkton, which works closely with partner farms in the Shenandoah Valley to source, process and extract cannabinoids (current focus on CBD) derived from hemp.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Rockingham County and the Rockingham County Economic Development Authority to secure the project for the Commonwealth, according to a release from Gov. Ralph Northam.
