UK: Cost of living crisis driving cannabis use in Gloucestershire, says police boss Chris Nelson

The cost of living crisis is driving more people in Gloucestershire to consume cannabis, according to police and crime commissioner Chris Nelson.

The Conservative PCC told Times Radio at the Cheltenham Literature Festival that marijuana use has gone up after the coronavirus pandemic. Times Radio presenter Matt Chorley asked Mr Nelson whether he was concerned that the cost of living crisis and worries about income is driving more people to take cannabis.

Mr Nelson said: “Yes. Cannabis use has gone up post-COVID. And I think post-COVID population is more fragile, more vulnerable, more needy and I think when people get like that if they’re not resilient and strong in themselves, they turn to quick fixes like alcohol and drugs.
