Trinidad: Police intercept large quantity of marijuana during traffic stop in Couva

Police say a routine traffic stop yesterday, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana and the arrest of one man.

Reports say at 8.30 am a party of officers led by Sergeant Maharaj, PC Mendoza

and PC Mc Allister were on traffic duties along Noel Street, South Couva.

The officers made a routine stop of a Hyundai Elantra vehicle driven by a 37-year-old man.

Officers say the driver began to behave

suspiciously so they then conducted a search of the vehicle, during which 3.71 kilogrammes of marijuana were seized. The man was immediately arrested.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old man from Blanchisseuse entered a bar in Chaguanas, jumped over the counter of the bar, and stole a quantity of cash, representing the day’s sale.

It was reported that the man then fled on foot.

Officers of the Chaguanas Police were immediately contacted, and a

party of officers from the Chaguanas Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Chaguanas Charge Room, Task Force Area

North, and Highway Patrol responded promptly.

The suspect was apprehended a short while after, by officers of the Highway Patrol.
