59-year-old man was chopped to death in Princes Town on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Koongie Madhoo.
Police were told that at 5:30pm yesterday, Madhoo went to check on a 53-year-old female friend along Marcano Street in Princes Town.
While there, he was approached by the woman’s 23-year-old son who reportedly asked him for weed which he did not have.
The suspect allegedly got enraged, grabbed a cutlass, and chopped Madhoo repeatedly.
Relatives intervened and disarmed the man.
Police and the ambulance service were called and the injured man was taken to the Princes Town District Health Facility. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
A team of officers led by Sgt Bridgemohan responded and were able to detain the suspect and seize the murder weapon.
