Three arrested after persecution in Majorca of a narco-barco who transported hashish from Africa

Bathers who were resting on the beach of Cala Gran in southeast Mallorca this Friday morning were caught in a rare cinematic chase. The Guardia Civil stopped three people who had fled a few minutes earlier near this notorious sandy area, after leaving the boat they had used the previous morning to transport hashish from North Africa stranded on the shore. Officers seized 1,200 kilos of hashish pollen which the detainees left abandoned overnight on the sand of a nearby cove when they were surprised by the authorities.

The episode began early Friday morning when the Guardia Civil learned that an inflatable rubber boat was heading at full speed towards the coast of Mallorca from North Africa. On the boat its occupants were carrying numerous packages resembling drug parcels, so the Guardia Civil launched a bomb to intercept the vessel on the Mallorcan coast. Around four in the morning the boat arrived at Cala Sa Nau, a beach that goes into the coast surrounded by cliffs in the municipality of Felanitx.

Two SUVs were waiting for them in the area, where they were loading the bales that the boat crew was leaving in the sand. At that moment, as explained by the Guardia Civil, the occupants of the boat became aware of the presence of the agents and began to flee into the open sea, leaving the bundles of hashish on the sand, as well as 68 bottles of petrol and a large amount of food they needed to start their way back.

The Guardia Civil launched a bomb together with the Maritime Rescue, with the presence of a helicopter and several Citizen Security patrols, with the aim of carrying out a search on the spot to locate the boat, convinced that it did not have enough fuel to start the return journey. The operation paid off and hours later the agents observed a boat matching the description of the dinghy that had unloaded the bales at Cala Sa Nau. After being discovered, its three crew members fled and headed towards the coast until they reached the beach of Cala Gran, in the municipality of Santanyí. The three convicts left the boat stranded on the shore and fled by running nearby. Shortly afterwards they were arrested by agents of the Guardia Civil.
