Sri Lanka: Cannabis field raided in Thanamalwila

Dec 25, Colombo: During a special joint operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Air Force and the Police Special Task Force (STF), three cannabis chenas and a cannabis nursery were found in the Galkotukanda area in Thanamalwila.

According to the STF officers, there were more than 20,000 well-grown cannabis plants of about 3 feet and 6 feet in height in the three chenas and more than 90,000 cannabis saplings in the nursery.

The value of the cannabis exceeds Rs. 20 million, officials said. All cannabis plants were set on fire and destroyed.

The suspects had fled during the raid and investigations are underway to arrest them, police said.

Officers of the Udawalawe STF camp and the Weerawila Air Force Base are conducting further investigations.
