TWO Guardia Civil agents are amongst 26 on trial for smuggling 2.2 tonnes of hashish into La Manga. in a case dating back 12 years.
The Guardia Civil agents – a sergeant and an agent – are alleged to have taken bribes to disclose information their force’s operations against drug traffickers.
The prosecution states that the smuggling ring was uncovered on June 9 of 2007 when five of those to be arrested were allegedly involved in unloading operations on a beach in La Manga del Mar Menor.
Police forces and customs officials seized 79 bales of hashish, weighing a total of 2,200 kilos and with a black market value of more than €3 million.
