A Taranaki honey company has developed New Zealand’s first mānuka honey and cannabidiol blend.

Lepperton-based Naki Honey is hoping to break into the budding international market for cannabidiol (CBD) edibles with its single-serve, snap pack CBD honey.

Cannabidiol is a substance found in cannabis that has potential therapeutic value but doesn’t produce a “high”.

While CBD products are prescription-only medicines in New Zealand, CBD honey is popular in the United States and United Kingdom where, although there is nothing to stop consumers spreading it on toast, it is more commonly added to tea.
