Moroccan Police Thwarts Smuggling of 1.26 Tonnes of Cannabis in Laayoune

The Moroccan police are tightening the grip on criminal networks and those involved in organized crimes as part of their commitment to protect the health of citizens and ensure their security.

Rabat – The judicial police of Laayoune intercepted an illegal smuggling attempt of a cargo of 1.26 tonnes of cannabis resin, on Monday evening.

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a press release on Tuesday that it carried out the operation following intel it received from the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

Rabat – The judicial police of Laayoune intercepted an illegal smuggling attempt of a cargo of 1.26 tonnes of cannabis resin, on Monday evening.

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a press release on Tuesday that it carried out the operation following intel it received from the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).

The police arrested two individuals, aged 26 and 30, for alleged links with a criminal network operating in international drug trafficking.

Initial searches conducted in the city of Boucraa, near Laayoune, led to the seizure of two bales of 62 kilograms of hashish. Further investigation enabled the police to discover 39 additional bales of hashish stored in two cars dumped about 200 kilometers outside the city of Laayoune.

The police placed the two suspects in custody pending further investigation and to determine the full circumstances of the operation and potential criminal networks.
