More Weed Busts in Queensland (AUS)

Queensland police have charged 47 people in a week-long drug sting that netted a large quantity of drugs, along with firearms and $10,000 in cash.

The operation was targeting the production and supply of cannabis across the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay and central Queensland.

Over the course of the effort, dubbed Operation Romeo Factor, 53 search warrants were executed by the State Drug Squad from the Sunshine Coast to Gladstone.

A total of 18 kilograms of dried cannabis was found, along with 593 cannabis plants and 26 hydroponic systems used in the production process.

Detective Acting Superintendent Troy Pukallus said the operations would have a significant impact on the state’s drug trade.

“These operations have removed drugs, weapons and cash out of the hands of criminal networks and reduced the supply and production of drugs in Queensland, making the community safer,” he said.

A 52-year-old man and 53-year-old woman from River Ranch were among those arrested.

Each faces six drug charges and they were due to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on December 16.

A 45-year-old Bargara man was also arrested on six drug charges. He was due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on January 13.
