GREAT BARRINGTON — Before the Select Board approves an outdoor cannabis crop off South Main Street, the proposal has to pass the smell test.
And the owner of the proposed farm, Midori’s Garden, will have to pay for it — to the tune of about $5,500.
That was the message from the Select Board this week as the board continued a public hearing on the plan to Nov. 25, giving the town time to settle on an odor consultant who can give the board an opinion before it grants a special permit.
Company owner Michelle “Mickey” Maki wants to add a half-acre cannabis crop to her family’s 17-acre homestead and farm, Gathered Waters. She’s asking the town to approve up to 10,000 square feet to grow cannabis. She also will seek a separate manufacturing permit to make cannabis products.
