A 23-year-old man has been fined £500 for possessing £1,000-worth of cannabis.

Bryan Wai Kin Nam Trong Nguyen, of Christian Road, Douglas, admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 costs by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

Her court last week heard that Nguyen was stopped by police while he was driving a Mercedes at the Grandstand on July 27.

He was found to have 56 grams of the drug.

Defence advocate Ian Kermode said that his client ’bought in bulk’ and had paid £500 for the drug but said that it would have lasted him several weeks.

Nguyen also agreed to accept a 12-month binding order after charges of threatening behaviour and resisting arrest, relating to an allegation on September 29, were withdrawn.

His mother, Puisan Liu, aged 43, of Christian Road, also agreed to be bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in relation to the same allegation after a charge of obstructing police against her was withdrawn.

Prosecution advocate Chrissie Hunt said that body cam footage from police had been viewed in relation to that incident and it had been accepted that police had misheard what was said by the defendants.
