Dead Drummer Micky Hart Launches His Brand Of Ready Rolls

Celebrity endorsements of cannabis may be irritating (looking at you, then quickly looking away, Post Malone) or deeply offensive (Hell will see you soon enough, John Boehner). Sometimes the relationship between cannabis and public figures seems tenuous at best, leaving consumers to question if the endorser is truly a joker, a smoker, and/or a midnight toker. Because if you weren’t down back in the day, not sure I can believe what you’re shilling now.
But there are exceptions to that rule, and this week, one of those exceptions announced his own line of cannabis. And no matter where you stand on his band, there is no denying that they’re forever intertwined with cannabis, perhaps more than any other musical act outside of Bob Marley.
Grateful Dead drummer (and taker of more psychedelics than you and your 10 friends will ever consume in your lifetimes) Mickey Hart shared that his new brand, Mind Your Head, will offer 10-packs of pre-rolled, one-third-gram joints. The tins of these “magic minis” will be available in Northern California dispensaries, no doubt inspiring many Deadheads who aren’t in that particular area to gas up the VW van and hit the road like in the old days.

Hart got deep into this new endeavor in a very Hartian fashion with Relixmagazine, showing himself to be a very enthusiastic cannabis user who has a deep connection to the product he’s getting behind.

Hart’s pre-rolls, which he refers to as “dog walkers,” are made from Chemdog, a strain with its own Dead-related history. He partnered with California cannabis brand Left Coast Ventures, who brought the actual Chemdog into the fold. Chemdog is credited with being “the man who first discovered the strain outside a Grateful Dead concert at Indiana’s Deer Creek in 1991 and later helped it go on to spawn famous strains like Sour Diesel and OG Kush.”

Says Hart:

“It’s the great mother to many elite strains. Then it died out somehow. Now it’s having a gigantic comeback, because Chemdog is in business again. The story was so incredible, the circumstances of its birth on Shakedown Street—I couldn’t resist it,” he continues. “I follow strains, and when this came about, I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, this is it.’ I’ve been asked many times before, but this just seemed right. Chemdog itself is a very interesting product, because it appeals to vision, getting in the moment, getting in the zone—that’s where real art is created. It’s very energetic, very heady, clean and smooth. It’s a very fun strain. It’s inspirational for me. I use it in my work—and play. There’s so much adventure to it.”
