Last year, Crosby partnered up with an entrepreneur and longtime friend, Steven Sponder. Together, they are seeking to license Crosby’s name to a cannabis company, as opposed to starting and owning their own cannabis cultivating and retail business. Sponder explained that, Crosby’s role will be “to guide where needed and tell the world how fantastic his strains are.” The partners plan on leaving the manufacturing, retail and marketing of the brand to the experts – a large, established cannabis brand they will hand pick together.
Crosby and Sponder selected the name “Mighty Croz” for their brand, referencing Crosby’s nickname. In addition, this will allow them to sell Mighty Croz products in places that do not allow celebrity names to be directly used on cannabis products. Again, they highlighted they plan to leave the naming and packaging details to the licensor.
“We’ve had all kinds of crazy licensing proposals come in, ranging from people wanting to pay to use Crosby’s name in exchange for crypto-currencies I’d never heard of, to companies solely focused on raising investor money with no real prospect for being successful in the long term,” Sponder said. “David Crosby is the voice of a generation. If his face is on a cannabis package, people will know it’s quality, they’ll buy it, and most importantly, they’ll come back for it – and that’s the tangible value we bring.
Crosby and Sponder assure they will entertain “offers from established cannabis companies that included stock, cash and a traditional celebrity royalty on sales. We’re holding out for a licensing partner that understands the industry and has a long term prospect for success.”
Who will walk home with the prized mustached face of David Crosby’s is yet to be determined.
