Now Cupa, who is from Albania, has been jailed for nine months.

Prosecutor Hunter Gray said police raided the address in Furnival Street, Cobridge, at midday on November 16 after receiving reports from Western Power of an electrical surge to the property.

Mr Gray said: “A number of officers attended, suspecting cannabis production was taking place.

“An officer located the defendant in the property. He was initially compliant and the officer was able to apply one handcuff to him. He tried to make a run for it. The officer had to let go of the loose handcuff but was able to grab hold of the defendant’s coat.

“He says the defendant threw a number of punches at him. He was able to avoid those but had to let go of the defendant’s coat and he ran further down the street. The officer pursued him. The defendant fell over. He was arrested.
