Canada: Tobacco, drugs worth $85K seized at Warkworth Institution

Warkworth Institution staff spotted and seized a package of contraband on Sept. 8.

Officials at the medium-security prison southeast of Peterborough say the package held tobacco and shatter, a hashish product that resembles toffee, worth about $85,526.

Smoking has been banned in federal correctional facilities since 2008.

The Correctional Service of Canada collects information about contraband, drug use and trafficking in prisons via a tip line at 1-866-780-3784. Tips are kept anonymous.
