Belfast Police Arrest 5 in 100 Kilo Bust

Five people have appeared in court in Belfast on charges linked to a £2m drugs seizure.

About 220lb (100kg) of cannabis were seized by police on Thursday.

Detectives said it was was one of the most significant seizures of drugs by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) this year.

Four men aged 28, 39, 46 and 59 and a woman aged 34, appeared in court on Saturday.

A Chinese interpreter was used during the 15-minute hearing.

The four men and one woman do not all face the same charges, but the alleged offences are all linked to the drugs haul.

The range of charges includes conspiracy to supply a class B drug, transferring criminal property, possession of a blade and immigration offences.

The five accused were arrested in south and east Belfast. The court was told they all have “no fixed abode”.

They face a total of 16 charges between them.

The person who faces the most charges is 59-year-old Fu Yau Lee, who is accused of five offences, including possession of cannabis, conspiracy to supply drugs and having a false Chinese passport.

Police carried out searches at seven different addresses in Belfast on Thursday.
