Four people were charged last week after investigators raided an illegal marijuana dispensary in Garfield, authorities said.
Investigators in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Garfield Police Department said a storefront business called THC JARZ, located at 517 River Road, was operating the illegal operation and was selling recreational marijuana and various THC products to the general public, according to a joint release from the agencies.
“Despite the recent changes to New Jersey’s marijuana laws, the unregulated sale of marijuana and THC products remains illegal,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a statement. “We encourage the public to be mindful of the law and to report such sales to local law enforcement.”
According to authorities, Jaime Costanzo, 40, of Wallington, was the owner and operator of the business and Vincent Scarpulla, 32, and Richard Walenty, 49, both of Toms River, were employees.
Undercover detectives from the office bought marijuana and other THC products from Scarpulla and Walenty at the store and on Sept. 16, police executed a search warrant at THC JARZ and seized a “substantial amount” of marijuana, THC edibles, THC wax/oil and about $15,000, according to the statement.
