A 54-year-old woman was detained at the João Paulo II airport in the city of Ponta Delgada, Azores, with 12 kilos of hashish pollen in her luggage, the police (PJ) announced on Friday.

According to a statement from the PJ, the detention of the woman, which had the cooperation of the National Republican Guard (GNR), “took place in the context of a police operation to combat drug trafficking, by air, which took place at João Paulo II airport.

“In the course of the proceedings, 12 kilos of hashish pollen were found in the defendant’s luggage,” the PJ indicated, informing that “a package containing 154 grams of cocaine was also seized as part of the subsequent search carried out at the defendant’s home.

The 54-year-old detainee, “unemployed and without criminal record”, was present at the first judicial hearing where she was remanded in custody.
