Ararat police have seized a massive amount of suspected cannabis after smelling a strong aroma when they intercepted a car late last night. Reports the Ballarat Courier
The uniformed officers noticed a dark-coloured BMW acting suspiciously around a fast food outlet on the corner of High and Collings streets about 11.45pm.
Pulling the car over on High Street, near Vincent Street, the officers noticed a “strong aroma of suspected cannabis” was coming from the car, a police spokesperson said.
The officers then searched the car, finding three garbage bags full of suspected cannabis in vacuum-sealed packages.
The bags weighed more than 40kg and it is believed the cannabis has a street value of more than $800,000.
Police arrested a 55-year-old Braybrook man along with another male from Sunshine North.
They are both currently assisting police with their enquiries.
The two Vietnamese nationals are expected to appear in court today where they will face charges including possessing cannabis and trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs.
