A Gold Coast man has been charged after police allegedly found more than 130 kilograms of cannabis hidden in the back of a transit van.

Officers from the major and organised crime squad intercepted the van in Currumbin Waters just before 1:00pm on Saturday.

Police allege the van was unregistered when it was intercepted in Guineas Creek Road.

Body-worn footage shows police searching the rear of the van and removing a large plastic bag from inside a cardboard box.

Police say they found 136 kilograms of cannabis with an approximate street value of $1.15 million packed in cardboard boxes in the van.

The 22-year-old driver from Elanora was charged with offences including trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and driving without a licence.

He will appear at Southport Magistrates Court today.
